The Casa Zavala has been added to the list of outstanding venues where the annual Cuenca Religious Music Week takes place. In 1998 the painter from Huesca, Antonio Saura, died in Cuenca. His final project was left unfinished at the time of his death: the creation of a Foundation bearing his name. Ten years later the Casa Zavala opened its doors as the headquarters of this institution, providing a new reference point for contemporary art dedicated to the memory of one of the most important Spanish visual artists from the second half of the twentieth century.
Situated right in the heart of the old town, a few metres from the Plaza Mayor, the magnificent late eighteenth century building which houses the Antonio Saura Foundation has undergone extensive renovation making it one of the most modern exhibition spaces in Spain and a venue that is furthermore able to host cultural events such as concerts, conferences, courses and so on. |
